Vitamins, Minerals and Metals

Vitamins, Minerals and Metals

Indication

General well-being

Benefit

Good overview of one’s vitamin status, levels of minerals, trace elements and metals.

Levels of vitamins can reveal adequate intake or the need for supplements or a diet adjustment. Elevated blood metals indicate immediate exposure; reduced concentrations of essential minerals and trace elements reflect an inadequate intake and may be a sign of a nutritional deficiency. Hair provides a record of past and current trace element levels.

Material and Preanalytics

For the vitamin panel in blood

8ml serum + 6ml (2 separate tubes) EDTA blood (keep samples light-protected and send immediately)

For the mineral analysis in whole blood

5 ml whole blood in metal free tube

For the mineral/metal analysis in serum or plasma

5 ml serum or plasma

For the mineral analysis in hair

3 teaspoons of hair (approx. 30g) – untreated, non-colored hair only; if possible hair should be washed for 2 weeks with baby shampoo only.
